Beyond the Brief

One of the greatest values an experienced design team brings to a project is the confidence to look beyond the original brief.

Every project begins with a vision, yet the most rewarding journeys rarely finish where they started. Through trust, collaboration and open dialogue, new opportunities emerge, ideas evolve and the brief gradually grows into something richer than anyone first imagined.

Giants on the Quayside perfectly illustrates this process. What began as an observation tower evolved into a vibrant riverside destination celebrating the River Tyne, Geordie culture, local heritage, recreation and community life. Every design workshop expanded the vision, and every collaborator contributed another layer to the experience.

The project was ultimately recognised with the International Property Award – Best International Leisure Architecture.

Yet the greatest reward was discovering what could be achieved when talented people shared a common ambition and challenged one another to think beyond their own disciplines.

Perhaps this is one of the designer's greatest responsibilities, not simply to respond to the brief, but to help clients discover the full potential of their vision.

The brief is the beginning of the conversation. Great ideas emerge through the journey that follows.
